Logging Into the StarSmart

OK, now that you have a static IP address set up in your ethernet interface, you will need to log in to the StarSmart ADSL modem.

In order to login, open a web browser, (Internet Explorer works best for this), and in the address bar type in the following IP address:

192.168.7.1

After you input the IP address, press the "GO" button or press "ENTER" on your keyboard to access the page. If everything goes as anticipated, you will see a login screen prompting for username and password. (Above)

At this point in the process, input the username and the password as follows:
(Make sure both username and password are capitalized)

USERNAME: DSL
PASSWORD: DSL

After inputing the username and password, simply press "OK" on the login screen. You will be redirected to the default home page of the modem.

After arriving at the StarSmart modems home page, click the "Quick Configuration" link at the top of the window to begin configuring your modem.

Quick Configuration

When configuring the modem, there are only 6 locations that need to be modified. They are listed as follows:

IP Address ( IP ASSIGNED BY NEMONT )
Subnet Mask ( SUBNET ASSIGNED BY NEMONT )

Default Route ( SET TO ENABLED )

Gateway IP Address ( GATEWAY ASSIGNED BY NEMONT )

Primary DNS Server ( 216.129.224.1 )
Secondary DNS Server ( 216.220.0.1 )

Once you are done configuring what is necessary on the Quick Configuration screen, you must apply those changes by simply pressing the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page. You will get redirected to another page stating that the configuration was successful. (Unless information was incorrectly entered.)

You are now done with the Quick Configuration and are ready for the next step; setting up the StarSmart to be a DHCP router.

Changing the LAN DHCP Mode

To configure your StarSmart ADSL modem to be a DHCP router, you need to start by clicking on the "LAN" tab at the top of the page.

After going into the LAN tab, our first step toward getting DHCP set up on the LAN side of the modem is to click on "DHCP Mode".

Once you are in the DHCP Mode configuration page, you need to set the "DHCP Mode" to "DHCP Server" from the drop down menu.

After changing the DHCP Mode, you need to save the changes by clicking the "Submit" button on the bottom of the page.

You should receive a DHCP Mode changed confirmation message on the next window, and at this point, you are ready for the next step; adding a new LAN Address Range.

Adding New LAN Address Range

In order to add our new LAN address range, we need to start off by going into the DHCP Server configuration page by simply clicking on the "DHCP Server" link at the top of the LAN page.

Next, we need to remove the existing LAN range by clicking on the trash can that is located on the right side of the selected range which is under the Actions column.

After you click on the trash can, you should receive a warning message that asks if you are sure you want to delete the selected range. At this point, you need to click the "OK" button on the confirmation window. After OK has been clicked, you will notice that the DHCP Server configuration page has "No DHCP Server Pool!" listed. You will fix that in the next step.

Now we have to add our new LAN IP range so any computer that is connected to the modem and configured for DHCP will pull an IP address from the modem. To do so, we start by clicking on the "Add" button on the bottom of the page. You will see a new window pop up asking for a lot of different information.

On this pop-up page there are only 4 sections that we need to configure.

Use the following address information:

START IP ADDRESS: 192.168.7.2
END IP ADDRESS: 192.168.7.100

NETMASK: 255.255.255.0

GATEWAY ADDRESS: 192.168.7.1

Leave all other fields blank as they are not necessary. Once the correct information has been entered, you need to save the changes by clicking on the "Submit" button which is located on the bottom of the page.

You should receive a "DHCP Server Pool Added Successfully..." message pop up and you will need to click the "Close" button to go back to the main DHCP Server window.

Your DHCP Server window should look like the image above. You will notice that a new range has been added to the modem. Now it is time for the next step... Saving your StarSmart ADSL modem configuration. Start this process by simply clicking on the "Admin" tab at the top of the screen.

Saving Changes Made to StarSmart

If you have not clicked on the "Admin" tab as of yet, you need to do so now. (Refer to last step of "Adding New LAN Address Range")

We need to save the new configuration settings to the StarSmart ADSL modem memory, otherwise, if you were to powercycle the modem, you would loose all of the configurations you have just completed. To save the new configuration settings we need to start by clicking on the "Commit & Reboot" link at the top of the Admin page.

After the "Commit & Reboot" page has loaded, all you need to do is click the "Commit" button at the bottom of the page. Clicking this button will save your new configuration to the StarSmart ADSL modem's internal memory. So if you were to powercycle your modem after you have saved the configuration, the modem would reboot with your configuration instead of the default configuration.

After clicking on the "Commit" button, you will get receive a message stating that the "Changes were Commited Successfully...".

Congratulations! You are now done configuring your StarSmart Wireless ADSL modem.
