Establishing and maintaining a stable Internet connection on a rural telephone line can sometimes be difficult.  Your connection relies on three primary factors; the modem, your telephone line, and the server.  When a customer is experiencing difficulties connecting or staying connected, we must begin the process of elimination.

TELEPHONE LINE:
Telephone Service is Federally Regulated.  This means that the telephone companies must maintain a set standard of telephone service to meet these guidelines.  Often times, the same equipment utilized in maintaining these standards for telephone service interfere with the Internet Connection.  Weather also contributes to problems on rural telephone lines.  Moisture often times causes static or noise on your line.

MODEM:
Though 56K Modems are the standard, obtaining that speed is rarely achieved even initially on any telephone line.  This becomes even more complicated rurally.  We have found that different types of modems are better able to filter or tolerate factors occurring on rural telephones. Ex. US Robotics.  This means that though your modem performed well in one area – it may not in another.  Ex. Rockwell HCF

Items to help correct unstable connections:

  1. Disconnect all other telephony devices on the premise.
  2. Turn the Window Com Port Max speed down to 57600 or 38400 to see how it is effected. See Below.
  3. Call the other modem number to see if things negotiate differently.
  4. Test dialup with Laptop that works good to see if works or shows same problem.
  5. If looks like is specific to computer then need to start looking at getting the most recent driver and firmware update for the modem.
  6. If still not working, Clean the computer of Networking files, Uninstall Dialup networking, Uninstall all Internet software. Reboot, Scandisk, defrag and reinstall Nemont Software.
  7. If still having problems it would appear to be a Windows issue or Telephone issue.
